Food You Can Wear

Well, it's no secret that I LOVE food. My family is known for planing the next meal while still eating. I recently found a way to indulge without all the calories. Q-Pot! This Japanese brand was founded in 2000. The designer, ex-fashion model, Tadaaki Wakamatsu, created his designs to make the world a more cheerful place. His aim was to create something fun that would make people smile and open up communication between people. His goal has been accomplished.
Somehow, even though I was surrounded by his designs in Japan I didn't buy anything. But when I came across the first US store. I HAD to. Outside the Ala Moana store, I was ready to purchase some delicious looking macaroons. Once I had entered, I realized I came across something much better. FOOD JEWELRY!
The store was full of Wakamatsu's latest creations: macaroons, dripping honey, caviar, hamburgers, ice cream, teeth, and slices of fruit. My favorites were the hamburgers and ice cream.
After walking around the 3 story mall with these delights on my mind, I knew I had to get something. I went back and tried on both the hamburger necklace, ring and the ice cream necklace. The hamburgers were super cute, but didn't lay well once you got them on. It was a little hard to tell what they were.
Finally, I settled upon the necklace below (worn by yours truly). I love it!!! These creations are not cheap but they will sure set you a part from the crowd. I can't wait to see what more Q-Pot comes up with! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it ;)

Another Successful Craft Group

Well, we've had about 4 meetings of our craft group now. During our last meeting we worked on jewelry. After doing some research online and taking into consideration we were meeting at the Nut House I decided to make some charm bracelets. These bracelets were pretty simple and making them seemed a lot cheaper than buying them.
This bracelet (above) is made by Ettika and retails for $75. Seems pretty steep, right?
This one, is by M. Cohen and retails for a whopping $225. Yikes! I can't believe that anyone would pay that much for this. Are there diamonds hiding in those skulls!?!?
Well, it's a little hard to see, but after about 3 hrs and $60 I was able to make all of these. The blueish one has sea themed charms on it. The middle one is an exact copy of the M. Cohen one. And the multi colored one is a more Caitlin-y version of the Ettika one. Not too bad, right? These bracelets were really easy to make and there are tons of variations you could do. With a few bucks and a little perseverance, anything is possible.

A Watch I Might Actually Wear

Who wears watches anymore?!? Unless you have lots of money and collect nice watches, there isn't much of a reason to wear a watch anymore. Between cell phones, iPod and laptops, it seems hard to avoid the time. Well, here's one I might actually wear....but this probably falls into the lots of money category....

In Far East the Koi is a prized possession. In the US, it's a large carp that lives in man-made ponds, but the valued fish are good luck, and long-lived hobby companions to many. Swiss Angular Momentum offers up a new timepiece with a beautiful relief engraved Koi fish on the dial. The Koi's eye is a diamond stone, and the ground is done in black Ishime Urushi natural lacquer (from a processed tree sap). On this watch the time it told "souscription style" (whatever that means) via a porthole and a single disc that spins behind it.

Pretty fancy, huh?

World's Most Expensive Shoes

Holy jesus! I never would have guessed that a pair of shoes could cost this much. Stuart Weitzman has broke the record at a whopping $2 million. The silver leather heels feature over 185 carats of tanzanite and 28 carats of diamonds. The front strap features a slim strap of diamonds but the heavy gemstones are designed to curve around the ankle with a 16 carat pear-shaped tanzanite drop surrounded by diamonds that dangles down over the top of the foot.

Man, you probably can't wear those out of the house. Make sure to get them insured!

Black Diamonds and Sex And The City

I hate to admit it but I haven't seen Sex and the City 2 yet. For some reason I can't seem to drag my boyfriend to the theater (love you, baby) ;) But I have heard that this ring is a major part of the plot. Well, now you too can have your very own black diamond ring from Sex and the City. It was made by Italy Malkin. The ring is set in 18 karat white gold and has 80 round natural white pave diamonds equaling 0.35 carats. Sarah Jessica Parker and costume designer, Patricia Field, both weighed in on the final design of the ring. The baby will be producted in a limited edition series for $10,000, each ring stamped with the limited edition serial number and certificate. Get one before they're gone.

Don't be fooled. Men like BLING. Here's proof!

The 2009 New Orleans Saints got their Super Bowl XLIV championship rings at a ceremony at the city's Roosevelt Hotel on Wednesday June 16. The rings were designed by Tiffany & Co. and feature a bunch of touches that resonate with fans of the Saints and their city. The rings are yellow gold and feature the New Orleans Saints fleur-de-lis logo set with round diamonds. The words "world champions" are set into the bezel of the ring with eight diamonds on each side (a total of 16 symbolizing the games the Saints won during the season). The rings also bear the score of the game, the NFL shield, images of the St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square and the Louisiana Superdome, a scene from the championship parade and the first few notes of the song "When The Saints Come Marching In." The underside of the ring bears inscriptions of team mottoes from last season: Be Special; Finish Strong; and Smell Greatness (insert bad joke here).

The rings are valued at around $30,000 each. One ring wasn't there wasn't at the ceremony though. It will be raffled off to raise money to benefit the relief efforts for the Gulf Coast oil spill. The winner will be announced at the nationally televised New Orleans Saints season opener on September 9, 2010. The winner will receive the ring and a cash prize in the amount of $2,178 to mitigate the winner's tax liability that results from winning the raffle. The proceeds benefit the New Orleans Saints Charitable Foundation and the Celebrities for Charity Foundation. Raffle tickets are $2 each with a minimum order of 5 tickets. The Saints organization hopes to raise as much as $1 million through the effort.

Now THAT'S A Rock!!

Now those are rocks I'd be proud to wear. Someone is going to be a VERY happy bride. These two diamonds were sold at Christie's New York Jewels Sales on June 15. The 27.03 carat, D, VVS1, type IIa diamond sold for $3,554,500 beating the high estimate of $3 million. The second highest lot was a 10.19 carat, square cut fancy intense orangy pink diamond which went for for $2,322,500 far above the high estimate of $1.5 million. Man, get insurance on those rings!! And careful not to blind anyone.
