More Great Stuff on Etsy

I love Etsy! It's full of stuff you must have that you never knew you even needed. Haha. I saw this the other day. Super cute. I'm a sucker for beady eyes and felt.
This cute craft is made by a woman who lives in Albuquerque, NM. She says she has "a ridiculous number of shoes but mostly prefer to be barefoot" (sound like anyone you know?). And also likes to name her houseplants. Hmm, sounds like my kinda girl. Too bad she can't join our craft group.

Another Successful Craft Group

Well, we've had about 4 meetings of our craft group now. During our last meeting we worked on jewelry. After doing some research online and taking into consideration we were meeting at the Nut House I decided to make some charm bracelets. These bracelets were pretty simple and making them seemed a lot cheaper than buying them.
This bracelet (above) is made by Ettika and retails for $75. Seems pretty steep, right?
This one, is by M. Cohen and retails for a whopping $225. Yikes! I can't believe that anyone would pay that much for this. Are there diamonds hiding in those skulls!?!?
Well, it's a little hard to see, but after about 3 hrs and $60 I was able to make all of these. The blueish one has sea themed charms on it. The middle one is an exact copy of the M. Cohen one. And the multi colored one is a more Caitlin-y version of the Ettika one. Not too bad, right? These bracelets were really easy to make and there are tons of variations you could do. With a few bucks and a little perseverance, anything is possible.

Cool Craft Or Crazy?!?

Who in craft group wants to offer up their car? I don't think this is the most practical craft. I kinda didn't see anything wrong with crocheting sweaters and potholders. The car was created by Magda Sayeg for the Il Lusso Essenziale art festival in Rome. Who knew?!

Transforming T-shirts

For the second meeting of our craft group, we will be revamping t-shirts. If you are coming up short on ideas of what to make, a great resource is "Generation T" by Megan Nicolay. As it says, this book has 108 ways to transform a t-shirt. I really like this book because their shirts don't look so homemade. We've all tried our hand at reworking a shirt at some point in time, but 9-10 times they look SO homemade and I'm too embarrassed to wear it. No one wants to look like a 5 year old made their shirt. Ladies, do some research before you come ;)

Here's a pic of my baby in her new tutu (:3 This is the craft I made in our first craft group meeting...I know I said we did felt. I made this tutu for Ahi and started on a felt dress for her :)

First Craft Group = Success!

Yay! The first successful meeting of our craft group has taken place. We decided we were all going to work with felt....and this ended up being true for everyone but me. We had a group of 6 of us, which I think was a good number. Lydia ("co founder") picked up "communal" felt for all of us (ended up costing each of $2). And the rest of us brought, bits and pieces of stuff we had at home. Half of us had decided what we were going to make before coming to group (this worked in our favor). We had a pretty wide (well as wide as possible with 6 people) variety of skill level. Some were skilled seamstresses, while others didn't know how to sew. In the end we ended up with some felt jewelry, a (felt) mask, a place mat for cat food....and a cat tutu (I'm sure you can guess who's that was). If you're planning on coming to craft group, I would recommend: having a few ideas in your head about what you'd like to make (lord knows this probably isn't what your final project will be, but a great resource for others), bringing "base" supplies for your project, and be prepared to have fun :)
